Edinburgh – Are You Ready!!

The saying goes, if St Paddy's Day falls on a Friday, then it carries over all weekend, chuck in a Grand Slam victory for Ireland in the 6 Nation Rugby Tournament, add to the pot the delicate sounds of Ireland's finest musical exports in Thin Lizzy....A Sea of Green, White and Gold should awash the streets all over the world, failing that at least you know its gonna be good Craic on your night out.

Our delicate sounds of Thin Lizzy this evening are delivered to us by 'Black Rose', no strangers to the tribute scene and have been spreading the Lizzy tones and love since the mid 1990's covering every era of Thin Lizzy as Scotland's oldest tribute to Phillip Lynott & The boys but tonight and for many shows during 2023, its gonna be 'Live And Dangerous' as this year marks the 45th Anniversary release of one of the greatest live albums of all time, an album critically acclaimed by many a 'muso scriber' the world over .... so only fitting to pay homage to Lynott, Gorham, Robertson & Downey for the chaps in Black Rose to perform and recreate a seminal masterpiece in its entirety, no gimmicks, no safety net, just an idolizing for all things Lizzy.

Tonight's venue, The Voodoo Rooms situated a stones throw from Edinburgh's famous Princes Street, and a genuine treasure of a venue With the 'Sold Out' signs adorned across the Socials a good few days before Black Rose took flight up those stairs and into grandeur of The Ballroom for a Saturday night of all Live and all Dangerous classic Thin Lizzy.

Keeping Black Rose company this evening on the musical front were 'Miles Apart', a Rock Covers band invited along to entertain the troops and for a solid hour....entertain they did, some fine toe tapping bangers from the likes of Queen, ZZ Top, Foo Fighters and AC/DC to name a few, what a great start to the evening.

I've been to a few gigs at the Voodoo Rooms over the years and have to say the sound from the Ballroom each time has been first class and tonight was no exception.

After a Pit Stop at the bar for a top up I reacquaint myself to my perch and await the arrival of this evenings headliner and for the next 2 hours the Sold Out audience were treated to Classic Thin Lizzy, from the opening hanging Chord of 'Jailbreak' the delightful 'Emerald' complete with the 'Does anyone have any Irish in them.....' chat, its very clear these guys are passionate about recreating and doing justice to a band recently voted Ireland's greatest band. Singer/Bassist Eddie Steadman, flanked by Guitarists David Bateman & Craig Stewart, Drummer Gordon McLeod are staying true to that undeniable sound of Thin Lizzy, add in some extras with Stuart Coleman on Keyboard and Sax beefing up the likes of 'Dancing in the Moonlight' and more. Its fair to say that the mid 70's was the pinnacle era of Thin Lizzy, offerings such as 'Massacre', 'Still In Love With You' 'The Cowboy Song' stand just as tall and relevant as 'The Boys are Back in Town' and of course our Tributeers are hitting home each time, a glance around and you can see plenty of singing and dancing from the matured Saturday night assembled, the dancing would continue for the rest of the evening with the likes of 'Are You Ready' ,'Sha-La- La' and album closer 'The Rocker'...still time for a night cap with 'Whiskey in the Jar' and our hosts namesake rounding off the proceedings with 'Black Rose' (what else)

As mentioned above the passion the Black Rose chaps have for Thin Lizzy radiated throughout this evening and the fact this was a sell out tells the story that the music of Thin Lizzy is as important now as is it was back in the day...
